The Foundation of Our Mission:
Christ's Authority and Commission

Matthew 28: 18

Jesus’ Authority

Every ministry initiative we undertake is rooted in the divine authority and unwavering command of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Our efforts are not merely organizational; they are a direct response to His powerful declaration:

“I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth.” (Matthew 28:18)

Matthew 28: 19-20

 The Great Commission

It is from this absolute authority that the Great Commission flows, giving purpose and direction to every facet of our ministries:

“Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20)

OUR HISTORY

Church Founded in Montgomery, AL

The Southside Church of Christ was established on June 11, 1972, when 69 adults and their families gathered with a shared vision to form a congregation on the south side of Montgomery, Alabama. The church's first worship service was held that same day, marking the beginning of a faith community built on unity, determination, and a commitment to serving God.

Through the leadership of founding minister Evangelist K. K. Mitchell, the congregation experienced significant growth and development. During his tenure, Southside established many of its foundational ministries and traditions, including Homecoming and Family Day celebrations, youth and adult choruses, prison ministry efforts, community outreach initiatives, benevolent programs, and support for developing congregations throughout Alabama.

In 1993, the congregation relocated to its current home at 3388 South Hull Street, providing additional opportunities for growth and ministry.Throughout its history, Southside has been blessed with dedicated leadership, including Evangelists Herman E. Wesley III, Willie Ray Hill, Matthew Myles Sr., Thermadell Ross, Tim Anderson Jr., Ronald Simmons Sr., and its current minister, Jonathan L. Givens, who began serving in 2021.

Under Minister Givens' leadership, Southside continues to focus on its mission of Reaching the Lost, Discipling the Saved, and Impacting the Community. Recent initiatives have included community outreach programs, mentoring opportunities, youth development, food distribution efforts, homeless support initiatives, and expanded community engagement throughout Montgomery.

Today, more than 50 years after its founding, Southside Church of Christ remains committed to sharing the Gospel, serving others, and advancing God's Kingdom while continuing to build upon a legacy of faith, service, and spiritual growth.
